Debbie AusburnDeborah A. Ausburn grew up in Cornelia, Georgia and graduated from Habersham Central High School. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1986. While in law school, she was a member of the Georgia Law Review, and was elected to the Order of the Coif and the Order of Barristers. After graduating from law school, Debbie clerked for Judge Edmondson, now Chief Judge of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. A few years after entering private practice, she successfully argued before the United States Supreme Court. She is a member of both the Georgia and North Carolina bars. From 1992 to 1999, Debbie was a federal prosecutor in western North Carolina, where she prosecuted crimes ranging from child abuse to drug trafficking to murder. She was the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Coordinator for the district’s prosecutions, and was lead counsel in several precedent-setting appellate cases. After returning to Georgia and before joining Flint and Connolly, Debbie worked with Weinberg, Wheeler, Hudgins, Gunn & Dial, LLC where she represented day care centers, youth services organizations, nursing homes and other institutions in cases alleging harm to clients. She is a frequent speaker at seminars addressing the legal system and abuse issues. In 2005, Governor Perdue appointed Debbie to the governing board of the Georgia Department of Human Resources. Debbie also assisted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with their publication, Preventing Child Sexual Abuse Within Youth-Serving Organizations: Getting Started on Policies and Procedures.
